YET ANOTHER of those films that relies entirely on the actions of martial arts propagators is Columbia Pictures "The One", featuring Jet Li. Before you say `Not again', hold it. This one dabbles in life outside the earth alternate universes at that! And all the action and sequences are designed to confuse and fill the frames with fights engineered with special effects, noise and acrobatics.
A sci-fi plot with a nail-biting finish... "The One".
An apology for a story goes thus alternate life waves exist in alternate universes.Could be! A fact that everyone at the Multiverse Bureau of Investigation accepts and upholds. Possible! Every Multiverse Agent, but former investigator, Gabriel Yulaw (Jet Li) Ho hum! Yulaw as he is better known, has traversed 123 universes hunting down and destroying his alternate life forces wow! As he kills each one his remaining alter egos absorb the power and strength of those alternate life forces gaining superhuman abilities. What fun! So he continues his rampage eradicating himself in each universe so that he can be "The One"! Way to go!
So what do you think will happen? Especially when the other Gabriel Yulaw known as Gabe is the last alternate life wave standing between Yulaw and his goal? And also when he happens to be this terrific guy, an honoured veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department! Don't want to spoil the fun and let you on to what could happen.
Even someone who has few brain cells should be able to figure out. But then if you want to see it all on the big screen with all the rumble and tumble of special effects, a unique sci-fi plot and nail biting action, you should head to the theatre.
But not before you get a taste of some of the catchlines "If two is company, who will be the one?" "Duel with your dual'', "What if your mirror shows you the face of your worst enemy?"
This `masterpiece' has been directed by James Wong.
