PUTCHALAPALLI SUNDARAYYA (1913-85) was not only a political leader but also a disciplined soldier of life. Many phases of his life, not commonly known to all, are brought out in this book.
The author admits he had his ideal and role model in Sundarayya. His personality and individuality, commitment to purpose, honesty and integrity, patriotic fervour, loyalty to principles and beliefs appealed to him right from his student days and the biography, so well done, portrays all these factors without flattery or exaggeration.
Divided into nine sections, the book deals with the life and work of Sundarayya to the people at large, party and the nation. His services in various committees and the Parliament are succinctly narrated. His life was a story of revolution and closely interweaves with the national history. His assiduity in study and the use of literature as a tool for social change is well documented. It is sure to inspire the youth in preparing themselves for a serious dedication to life and its causes.
Besides being a narrative of life and work, it includes short comments by national leaders like E.M.S. Namboodripad and Kanaka Mukharjee, friends like Arudra, Chalasani Prasadarao and Sundarayya's wife, Leela, and sister Ramanamma. The book also carries line drawings and portraits by Chandra. Sundarayya decidedly deserves to be named among the ranks of nation builders for his socio-political work and accomplishments in general.
