Life history of Chaitanya

SRI SRI CHAITANYA BHAGAVATA: Sri Vrindavandas Thakur; Yogapith Sri Mandir, Sri Mayapur-741313, Nadia district, West Bengal. Rs. 20.

THE BHAGAVATAM, one of the great Puranas, explains the purpose of various Divine incarnations with special attention on Lord Krishna's birth to re-establish moral order. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was a messenger of God, deputed to reform the society when there was moral degradation and degeneration.

He went round the country and spread the glory of Lord Krishna. Sri Vrindavandas Thakur, a scholar, has written in Bengali the life history of Sri Chaitanya on the lines of the Bhagavatam and Sri Bhaktivilas Paramahamsa has rendered this version into English.

The book details the "Leelas" of Sri Chaitanya and the philosophy he spread — "constant expression of repentance with expression of sincere humility". The English translation could have been scrutinised critically by other scholars.
