National Workshop on

 Managing Global IT Projects

organised by

Computer Society of India

Chennai Chapter and Division VIII - Microcomputers

on 15th  November 2002 at Chennai

Objectives of the Workshop: The rules of the game in software are being continually rewritten. What started off as a simple model of utilizing talented people in India as resources has now widened to a larger scope. Geographically distributed teams work in unison in product design, development and maintenance. Over the last few months, we have also seen the increasing importance of IT Enabled Services and Business Process Outsourcing. The typical changes that can be observed and experienced in managing projects in all these areas are:

? Vanishing Geographical Boundaries

? Shrinking Product Life Cycles

? Increasing Competition

? Changing Business Models

? Commoditization of Technology

In order to have sustainable success in this ever-changing scenario, products and services need to reach the markets faster, with higher quality and harness all the global resources. Effective project management is a key to this success.

This workshop provides 360-degree coverage of all the issues that confront global IT projects in the areas of product development, support and IT Enabled Services. We also provide a well-rounded view that addresses the various perspectives – business and strategy, engineering and management, quality and processes and finally infrastructure and government initiatives. We will hear from people with repute who have actually played a significant role in each of these important areas.

Intended Audience:  This workshop would be of importance to Senior and Middle Level Managers who are responsible for managing people, processes and technology in IT,  ITES companies and large user organisations. The concepts presented in the seminar embody common sense principles and hence can be adapted to managing projects in non-software arenas as well.
