Lands worth Rs. 1-cr acquired for Adi Dravidas

House site pattas distributed to 4,602 persons

SALEM: The State Government has acquired lands worth Rs. 1.10 crores and provided free house pattas to 4,602 Adi Dravidas in the district over the last five years, Social Welfare Minister, Vijayalakshmi Palanichamy said.

Participating in a free house patta distribution function at A. Nattamangalam village in Ayodhyapattinam panchayat union near here on Saturday, she said this year the government had allotted Rs. 40 lakhs to acquire lands under the scheme to distribute free house pattas for Adi Dravidas and about 798 beneficiaries would be given free house pattas.

The Minister further said the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) had implemented 4,651 developmental works at a cost of Rs. 14.13 crores in the last five years in Ayodhyapattinam panchayat union. In the current year, 1,019 developmental works to the tune of Rs. 2.55 crores were being carried out in the panchayat union.

Apart from these infrastructure development works, the government was executing several plans for the welfare of residents in the panchayat union, she said.

Later, Ms. Vijayalakshmi distributed free house pattas worth Rs. 10.83 lakhs to 168 Adi Dravidas in the village.

She also handed over sewing machines to two beneficiaries, mini-horticulture kit to five farmers and old age pension to 15 persons.

The Collector, A. Sukumaran presided. Project Officer of DRDA, T.K.S. Manimanthiri and District Adi Dravida Welfare and District Backward Class Welfare Officer, Mahaboob Batcha welcomed the gathering.
