Attack on journalist's house condemned
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI
NOV. 17.
Four journalist organisations in Tamil Nadu today condemned the act of vandalism at the house of The Indian Express Special Correspondent, Ashwani Sharma, and at the office of the television channel Sahara Samaya in Raipur last evening.
The house and the channel were targeted for exposing the alleged corruption scandal involving the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Dilip Singh Judev.
This "cowardly act" by "unidentified ruffians" only reiterated the increasing intolerance towards the media's role as a watchdog, the Madras Union of Journalists, Chennai Press Club, Journalists Action Group and the Network of Women (NOW) in Media, Chennai, said in a joint statement.
The organisations called upon the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to apprehend the culprits and ensure that such acts of "uncivilised barbarism" do not recur and journalists and their families are provided protection.
