It said: "This declaration of war against the media is unprecedented in the history of democratic India and all who believe in democracy should raise their voice against it." The CPI (M)'s State secretary and MLA, M.Y. Tarigami said, "while we jealously guard the autonomy of the legislature we should equally respect the autonomy and freedom of the other pillars of Indian democracy, including the press. Democracy can only survive if all the institutions know their limitations and respect the authority of others."
