Hoardings removed

NEW DELHI OCT. 31. Acting on the directive of the Election Commission with regard to defacement of public places and properties by political parties and aspiring candidates, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has removed over 700 hoardings, 10,000 banners and 16,000 posters.

Soon after the announcement of Delhi Assembly election, the Election Commission had directed the civic bodies to ensure strict enforcement of West Bengal Defacement of Public Properties Act.

The MCD Deputy Commissioner (Election), Ashok Kumar, said the drive removal would be intensified in the coming days. "We are submitting regular reports in this regard to the Election Commission," he said.

Mr. Kumar said the these posters, banners and hoarding have been removed mostly from Lajpat Nagar Central Market, Ridge Road, Pusa Road, Kingsway Camp, ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Moti Nagar, New Rajinder Nagar, Bawana, M.B. Road, Aurobindo Marg, Chirag Delhi, Green Park, Malviya Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Preet Vihar, Karol Bagh, Rohini and Ballimaran.

Senior officials of the New Delhi Municipal Council said the number of posters, banners and hoardings they removed were nullified as more were put up in the night by workers of the political parties and the aspiring candidates for the forthcoming Assembly polls.
