A DRI official identified the accused as Jose Sebastian. The DRI said that Rs. 11 lakh worth foreign currency, including U.S. dollars, Euros and Kuwaiti Dinars, were seized from the accused.
According to officials, the accused was intercepted by DRI sleuths while attempting to board the Wednesday afternoon Air India flight to Dubai. The foreign currency was seized from the baggage which he was pushing along in a trolley cart.
The seizure was made by the DRI when the air passenger entered the apron area of the airport after Customs, Security and Emigration clearance, an official said.
The accused was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court here late on Wednesday evening on charges of violation of the Customs Act. He has been remanded to judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
