Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The department has agreed to hand over the keys of the bunks to the Corporation and leave the issue of rehabilitation of traders to the local body. It has also been decided to reduce the size of the bunks. Terming the proposal as "illegal", the Corporation Council had adopted a resolution on July 9 urging the Government to prevent the department from putting up bunks inside the East Fort as part of the Fort renovation project sponsored by the Centre. The department had taken up the construction of bunks to rehabilitate the traders, who would be displaced during the renovation process. The Corporation, however, maintained that it should have been consulted on the rehabilitation of traders since it was the authority for licensing of bunks. The Fort renovation project taken up by the Archaeology Department involves the construction of a row of prefabricated structures on the south side of the road facing the Padmanabha Swamy temple.
