Six hurt in group clash

CUDDAPAH July 16. Six persons were severely injured when rivals attacked them with firearms and lethal weapons in Nandimandalam village in Pendlimarry mandal last evening.

The Gondipalle MPTC member and Pendlimarry mandal vice-president, M. Ramana Reddy, of the Congress and his brother, M. Chenna Reddy, who were going on a motorcycle brushed past Krishna Reddy, Rajagopala Reddy and D. Ramana Reddy of the TDP belonging to Nallayyagaripalle village while they were waiting in Nandimandalam to sell sweet lime. This led to an altercation.

A constable intervened and took them to Pendlimarry police station, where the two groups were let off after being warned not to clash.

Subsequently, the mandal vice-president, accompanied by about 100 villagers of Gondipalle, Balayapalle and Cheemalapenta, armed with rifles, bombs, sickles and axes, allegedly raided Nallayyagaripalle village and inflicted severe bleeding injuries on six persons.

While Chintalapalle Siddha Reddy (40) sustained a bullet wound on his right hand, Kadiri Somasekhara Reddy (35), who suffered cut wounds on his head and hands, was referred to a Kurnool hospital, where his badly damaged hand was amputated, police said.

Nadipi Siddha Reddy (55), Diddukunta Ramana Reddy (35), C. Siddha Reddy and Chowduru Malleswara Reddy suffered head injuries and were admitted to the Cuddapah Government hospital.

Meanwhile, three persons belonging to Ramana Reddy's group got admitted to the Vempalle Government hospital. The Pendlimarry police registered cases on two complaints on the attack.
