Hurriyat chief seeks permission to visit Pak.

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu July 16. The All-Party Hurriyat Conference chairman, Moulvi Abbas Ansari, today sought permission to go to Pakistan and the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir for a comprehensive dialogue with the Pakistan leadership and militant outfits to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.

Talking to The Hindu, he said, "We again demand permission to go to Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to start a comprehensive dialogue to end violence in the State. We would also like to start a dialogue with militant outfits to bring down the same. Due to restrictions we have not been able to establish (maqalma) dialogue with the leadership on the other side of the State."

He said the Hurriyat would not run away from a dialogue if any ``sincere move'' was taken by the Central Government at the top-level.

He opposed mediation by the U.S. and said, "issues can be resolved by bilateral understanding and not by coercion by some super power. We know India is a sovereign country and so is Pakistan and nobody would like any other country, including the U.S. to dictate terms."

"Let us take the example of the Shimla Agreement in 1972 where leaders of both India and Pakistan without any mediation came out with a mutually agreeable solution," he said.
