A lunch with Basu

KOLKATA JULY 16. The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the former West Bengal Chief Minister, Jyoti Basu, were guests at a lunch meeting at a hotel here today.

The nonagenarian Marxist leader, who had in the past described the BJP as an "uncivilised and barbaric party", drove to the Hyatt Regency for the meeting with Mr. Vajpayee. The West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and captains of industry were also present at the lunch hosted by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
