The team led by A.K. Dutta, Head of the Paediatrics Department of the Government-run Lady Hardinge Hospital would include experts from the Safdarjung Hospital and also the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. A team of experts from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases and the Indian Council of Medical Research is already in the State to investigate the cause of the epidemic. Preliminary tests have shown that it could be due to Japanese Encephalitis.
