Tara's good run continues

NEW DELHI JULY 16. Tara Iyer continued with her good run and beat Maki Arai of Japan 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF women's tennis tournament in Baltimore, US.

The 15-year-old Tara, who had come through three rounds of the qualifying event, will meet the fifth-seeded Ludmila Richterova of the Czech Republic in the second round.

The sixth-seeded Sai Jayalakshmy also made it to the pre-quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Tomoko Taira of Japan.

Bopanna advances

Rohan Bopanna ousted the 201st ranked fourth seed George Bastl of Switzerland 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (8-6) to move into the pre-quarterfinals of the $25,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Manchester on Wednesday.

The 321st ranked Bopanna will meet Cristiano Caratti of Italy in the second round. The Italian had beaten Marc Bauer of France 6-3, 6-0.
