At the conclusion of the two-day conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors General of Central Excise and Customs here today, it was decided to further simplify Customs and Central Excise and service tax legislation and procedures such as simplified one page forms, increased use of computerisation and information technology for on-line assessment and clearances of import and export cargo on the same day. It was also decided that the customs gateway project in Delhi would be replicated at all ports for speedy clearances. In the case of excise clearances, it was decided to create a web site to receive monthly returns and on service tax, it was decided to extend the existing facility for filing half-yearly returns through the website to all services.
