Kaif top scores for Worcestershire

London July 16. India's middle order batsman Mohammad Kaif was top scorer for Derbyshire in the tie against Worcestershire in a Frizzel County Championship at Worcester here on Tuesday.

Kaif scored 31 before he was trapped leg before by Australia's Matt Mason, who proved to be the main tormentor for Derbyshire with five wickets for 43 runs.

Replying to Derbyshire's first innings score of 163, Worcestershire made 155 for six wickets at close of play on the opening day of the second division match.

In another second division match, India's Yuvraj Singh failed miserably as he contributed only seven runs in Yorkshire's first innings score of 340 for six wickets in its match against Durham at Chester-Le-Street.

In Leicester, India's Virender Sehwag was resting a back injury as Leicestershire put up a competitive total of 320 in the first innings and in reply Sussex made 51 for no wicket at close of play here.

Brief scores: (day one of four): Derbyshire — Ist innings: 163 in 44.2 overs (M. Kaif 31, G. Welch 28, Mason five for 43) vs Worcestershire 155 for six wkts (Vikram Solanki 28, Cork three for 32).

Yorkshire — Ist innings: 340 (A. McGrath 86, M.J. Lumb 43, C. White 82 (n.o.), A.K.D. Gray 60 (n.o.) vs Durham.

Leicestershire — Ist innings: 320 (P.A.J. DeFreitas 103, D.I. Stevens 51, B.J. Hodge 47, J.N. Snape 36, Mushtaq Ahmed five for 93) vs Sussex 51 for no wkt (M.W. Goodwin 34 (n.o).
