In a statement issued this afternoon, Qasim Rasool Illyas, spokesperson for the Board, made it clear that "the Board is not negotiating with the Sankaracharya". It also clarified that it had not authorised anyone to negotiate on its behalf. "We have neither authorised anybody, nor have we sent a message to him," said Mr Illyas. Similar sentiments were echoed by the former MP and Board member, Syed Shahabuddin. Describing the report as "absurd and unfounded", Mr. Shahabuddin said the Board had decided against further negotiations with the Seer. "If an individual is in touch, he is doing it in his personal capacity and is obviously unauthorised," he added. Mr. Shahabuddin also asked the Sankaracharya to reveal the name of the person he was holding negotiations with. "Nobody is authorised to discuss the issue with the Seer, leave alone negotiate and the Shankaracharya would be well advised to check the person's credentials," he said.
