17 die in Bihar floods

Patna July 12. At least 17 persons lost their lives in the recent wave of floods in Bihar as the overall situation further deteriorated with rivers continuing to swell following heavy rains in the catchment areas in Nepal during the past 24 hours.

With reports of four more deaths — two from Khagaria, one each in Darbhanga and Sheohar districts — in boat accidents yesterday, the toll went up to 17. — PTI

Mumbai JULY 12. After recording a decline the previous week, the foreign exchange reserves jumped by $869 million to $82,774 million during the week ended July 4.

The country's foreign currency assets swelled by $844 million to reach $79,075 million in the period under review, according to the Reserve Bank of India's weekly statistical supplement released here today.

Gold reserves at $3,698 million rose by $25 million while special drawing rights saw a nil balance. — PTI
