According to a press release, the police raided three shops -- Vijay Stationery and Computers, Somajiguda, Computer Vap, Abids, and Stationery World, Osmangunj, -- and arrested Jayanth Patel (28), Terala Venkatesh (27) and Bhavesh S. Khandor (28). It is learnt that the source of the counterfeit cartridges was one Dinesh (32) of Mumbai. The accused persons were said to have purchased them at 40 per cent of the original cost and selling them at the original price to gullible customers making a whopping 60 per cent profit.
Mosquito coil racket
Officials of South Zone of the Task Force on Thursday unearthed a spurious `Mortein' mosquito coil manufacturing unit at Edibazar and arrested the owner, Syed Shams-ul-Akbar, alias Anwar. A huge quantity of spurious coils, boxes, cartons and other material was seized. On interrogation, Anwar confessed that he had a trade licence under the name of `Seema Hygienic Products,' for manufacturing `Missile' mosquito coils. As it was not a popular brand and his profits were very low, he hit upon the idea of faking popular brands.
Chargesheets against firms
The Drugs Control Administration has filed chargesheets against several pharmaceutical companies in the first week of July for not maintaining standards in the manufacture of drugs. A statement from P. Ananthasayanam Reddy, Additional Director-General, Drugs Control Administration, said cases were filed against Cadila Pharma, Khristol Pharm Pvt Ltd, Pharmaids Pharmaceuticals, Akay Pharma Pvt Ltd, Veras Pharm, Ethick (India) Health Care and Bharat Medical and General Stores.
