Naidu calls for war against mosquitoes

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD July 10. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday directed officials to evolve a detailed calendar to create awareness about cleaning operations like sweeping of roads, chlorinating drinking water and intensifying anti-larval operations.

Speaking at an official meeting to review measures to curtail the spread of suspected viral encephalitis, Mr. Naidu said anti-mosquito operations should be taken up as a massive movement. Audio and videocassettes, pamphlets and posters should be distributed during the next three months on a war footing.

The Chief Minister said Panchayat Raj institutions must be given more powers to speed up programmes for public sanitation. They should also be provided facilities to shift patients to the nearest health centre even at night.
