A press release by the Planning Director of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat here said the scheme was open to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and disabled students and women below 40 years of age. They should have passed SSLC. Students would receive 50 per cent of their course fee in the form of assistance. The release said SC/ST students were eligible for higher financial assistance on a recommendation from their respective gram or town panchayat, or town municipal council. The Government had not entered into a tie-up with other computer education firms to impart computer training. The release said it had come to the notice of the Government that a few firms had offered to provide free computer education under the government scheme. People should be wary of such offers, it warned, and directed those interested to obtain information from the taluk or gram panchayats or the respective Yuva.com centres in this regard. The names of students who underwent training at the official centres were put on the official website, www.bangaloreit.com, the release added. Following is the list of centres in the district: Keonics Centre, Nithyananda Complex, Moodbidri; NIIT Centre, near bus-stand, Belthangady; NIIT Centre, Main Road, Suratkal; Aptech Centre, Main Road, Bantwal; Aptech Centre, Karangalpady, Mangalore; NIIT Centre, Thokkottu, Ullal.
