Three candidates held during Bihar polls

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA July 10. Three c andidates were arrested even as polling for 24 seats of the Bihar Legislative Council from the local bodies passed off peacefully with around 85 to 90 per cent turnout today.

Stray incidents of skirmishes and accusations of rigging marred the elections in which representatives of the panchayat and municipal bodies, besides MLAs and MPs, exercised their franchise to decide the fate of over 1000 candidates.

Three candidates — Rakesh Yadav, Uday Kumar Singh and Vivek Kumar — wanted by the police in different criminal cases, were arrested from Munger, Saharsa and Patna districts, following the Patna High Court directive to cancel the candidature of those absconding, evading the law.
