`Shram' awards for private sector too

NEW DELHI July 10. The Union Cabinet today decided to bring the private sector units, which employ more than 500 workers, in the ambit of the Prime Minister's Shram award. Presently, it covers only workers of departmental and public sector undertakings of the Central and State Governments.

The Union Minister and Cabinet spokesperson, Sushma Swaraj, said the number of awards has been increased to 33 from 17. The Cabinet had introduced a new segment called 'Shram Virangana' to encourage women workers.
