In the light flyweight category, China's Zhou Shiming defeated defending champion Yan Barthelmy Varela of Cuba 22-15, while Thai light welterweight Manus Boonjamnong scored a shock 21-11 victory over Nurzhan Karimzhanov of Kazakhstan, also defending his crown. In addition to Yan Barthelmy Varela, another member of Cuba's favoured squad took a drubbing Wednesday, when Kazakhstan's Galib Jafarov outpointed Yudenis Gonzalez 27-14 in the featherweight category.
