Or right speed

Sir, — It is laudable that the Allahabad High Court has pulled up the Archaeological Survey of India for its lethargy and indolence in completing the survey in Ayodhya within the given time. But, who has the authority and power to wake up the courts in Delhi and Allahabad?

The Ayodhya case has been hanging fire at several stages in the High Courts of Delhi and Allahabad and the Supreme Court since the past several years. This is a sensitive issue and the whole nation is in a disturbed state in one way or the other.

Had the courts resolved this issue in time, many untoward and unfortunate incidents such as Godhra could have been averted.

The High Courts of Delhi and Allahabad and the Supreme Court should set up a calendar with a determination to pronounce judgment within a maximum period of two months.

Parties to the case and the governments at the States and in the Centre should be instructed in unambiguous terms that they cannot gain any more time in responding to the court's directions.

D. Gannesan,

Srirangam, T.N.
