`Working together' won't mean merger, says Karunanidhi

By Our Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM July 6. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, today clarified that ``working together'' will not mean ``merger,'' ending speculation over any merger of the MDMK and his party.

At the marriage of the former Union Minister, Gingee Ramanchandran's son at Gingee near here, Mr. Karunanidhi said "as part of the Dravidian movement, both the parties will work together.

But there is a lot of difference between `working together' and `merger,' and these terms are not interchangeable.''

Though the CPI and the CPI(M) functioned as separate entities, they worked under the Communist banner.

Similarly, the DMK and the MDMK, known as ``part and parcel of the Dravidian movement,'' would work together.

The DMK was firm that the Prevention of Terrorism Act must be withdrawn, and the MDMK had also taken a similar stand, he said.

The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, the MDMK presidum chairman, L. Ganesan, and the Union Minister, M. Kannappan, were also present.
