A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Pradeep Nandrajog directed the Registrar to release the amount to AVUT as per the High Court order of April 24 in which the Ansals and the three above-mentioned bodies had been asked to share the burden of compensation (Rs. 16.40 crores) for the families of 59 dead and 104 injured in the fire tragedy. The MCD had deposited a cheque for Rs.2.26 crores, the DVB one for Rs.2,45,44,650 and the DCP, Licensing, of Rs. 2.14 crores to the Registrar earlier this week. However, the Ansals, the owners of the controversial hall, are yet to deposit their share of the compensation amount of Rs. 9.5 crores. They have moved the High Court seeking permission to sell the hall to raise the compensation amount. They have taken the ground that they needed to sell the hall as they had no other tangible assets to raise the amount. The application is pending.
