Cases against 4 under POTA for aiding naxals

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR JUNE 27. The district police have registered cases against four persons under POTA for reportedly aiding People's War naxalites who made a vain bid to attack the interior Mahadevpur police station in the district.

Stating this at a press conference here on Friday, the Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, said those arrested under the POTA were: Boosa Devender Reddy, Gade China Odelu, Olapur Mallaiah and Lakkireddy Lakshma Reddy. Devender Reddy is the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Mahamutharam mandal leader and a staunch supporter of the PW. It is said the accused persons have assisted naxalites in supplying explosives and a tractor.

The SP said: "We have tried to avoid invoking the POTA in the district and have warned people not to support naxalites. But despite several pleas, some persons have been aiding and abetting naxalites." He said some others would be arrested under POTA soon.

He said the tractor which was used to transport explosives and two motorcycles used by extremists were seized.

The SP warned some sarpanches, politicians and Government employees, who were allegedly aiding the PW activities, to mend ways. The police had definite information about some of them supporting naxalites. Appealing to them to shun naxalites, the SP warned that cases under the POTA would be registered if they continued their support.

With regard to Mahadevpur bus bomb which was exploded by naxalites near the police station, he criticised naxalites for exploding the bomb near public places causing harm to people. Ridiculing the Karimnagar DCS, Ganesh's statement that the `bus bomb' was only an experiment, the SP asked: "How long will naxalites experiment with people's lives causing human loss and property devastation."

The ASP, Vineeth Brijlal, the Godavarikhani DSP, L.S Chauhan, the Kataram CI, J. Rama Rao, and others were present.

On May 30, naxalites had attacked the Mahadevpur police station building by planting directional mines in a hired RTC bus. Several civilians and a constable suffered injuries and nearby shops were razed to ground under the impact of the explosion.

Over 30 naxalites, including the Karimnagar east division secretary, Ganesh, the NTSZC member, Pulluri Prasad Rao, the NTSZC secretary, Jampanna and Chandranna, Azad, Prabhakar, Shobakka, Tatanna, Jagadesh and others were involved in the operation.
