CPI(M) leader dead

GUWAHATI JUNE 27. Veteran freedom fighter and CPI(M) leader, Nandeswar Talukdar, passed away here this morning after a brief illness. He was 82.

Mr. Talukdar was one of the founders of the undivided CPI in Assam. He was secretary of the CPI(M)'s Assam State Committee from 1982 to 1995. He was also the secretary of the State unit of the All-India Kisan Sabha for many years. He was a member of the party's Central Committee from 1982 to 1997. He is survived by three sons. His wife, Nirupama Talukdar, who was vice-president of the party's women's wing, Ganatantrik Mahila Samity, predeceased him on May 11 this year.
