The Sydney Daily Telegraph correspondent said that the Australian cricketers were treating the tour of England as a social whirlabout, and that their behaviour was giving the team "the worst reputation of any which has ever come to England. Cricket, especially to the older members of the side has taken second place to unnecessary social activities. Tales of beer drinking bouts and roaring social parties have become general gossip among the cricketing fraternity. While this only affected off the field behaviour, cricket's powers were not worried. But it is now having its effect on the Australians' game."
