Waiting for justice

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM June 19. It is a prolonged wait for justice. M.Sreedharan, a former employee of the Travancore Titanium Products, has a touching story to relate about the circumstances, which compelled him to quit the company. Mr.Sreedharan says he had to sacrifice his job in his fight against corruption and nepotism. Mr.Sreedharan, who was charge-hand grade crane operator, says the company had forced him to opt the voluntary retirement scheme in 1991 against his will. "This was the price I had to pay in my fight against corruption,'' he says.

Says Mr.Sreedharan: "I he had detected certain irregularities in the weighing, loading and unloading of ilmenite. There were also complaints about the quality of ilmenite, which was brought to the company for processing. Once I raised these issues I found that it was impossible to continue in the company and ultimately left the job. Though he was promoted as supervisor on January 27, 1987, the promotion was allegedly stalled and a conciliation settlement made. Mr.Sreedharan alleges that the conciliation was arbitrary and his request to promote him as per the rules fell on deaf ears. On finding the going tough and on the advice of his superior officers, he opted for voluntary retirement. Mr.Sreedharan says that the situation was such that he had no other options but to leave the company.

"On quitting the company, I resolved to fight against the injustice meted out to me,'' Mr.Sreedharan says.

He later moved the Assembly Petitions Committee and the committee had recommended to reinstate him. Mr.Sreedharan says that he had filed detailed statements before the Additional Secretary of Industries Department on April 16, 2002 and also before the company managing director and chief manager, personnel and administration, on March 18, 2003.

``Though I had been trying all possible means for making the company implement the orders passed by the Assembly committee in my favour, it has not got the desired result,'' Mr.Sreedharan says. He has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, A.K.Antony, to consider his case and to reinstate him at the earliest.
