The letters were produced by the DMK headquarters following a directive issued by judicial magistrate-VI. Counsel for Mr. Azhagiri contended that a "misunderstanding" which arose between him and Kiruttinan was amicably resolved following an enquiry conducted by the DMK supremo. They also cited a May 5 letter, written by Mr. Azhagiri to his father, in support of this claim. While in the first letter, dated April 24, Mr. Azhagiri had expressed anguish at the "bad treatment" meted out to him by supporters of Kiruttinan during a party protest meeting held at Sivaganga, the second letter, dated May 2, was an explanation the former Minister gave to the charges levelled against him.
