Differences in TNCC 'sorted out'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JUNE 19. The war of words between the Congress and the AIADMK continues unabated. Today it was the turn of the TNCC spokesperson, Peter Alphonse: "The AIADMK is a fascist force and as long as it is headed by Ms. Jayalalithaa, there is no question of an alliance," he told newspersons.

He described the DMK as a "genuine political party".

Mr. Alphonse, who is here along with the TNCC chief, S. Balakrishnan, said the AICC leadership had sorted out the differences in the TNCC leadership by clearly demarcating the work allocation between the working president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, and Mr. Balakrishnan.

The TNCC chief hoped that all sides would now work unitedly to strengthen the party and to make the Kamaraj centenary celebrations a huge success.

The two leaders have held discussions with Kamal Nath, and Mr. Balakrishnan is likely to meet the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, in the next few days. According to him, the AICC leadership of the party has assured him that the present leadership structure in the State will not be needlessly disturbed.

The party has also set up a 31-member committee headed by Mr. Balakrishnan to prepare for the Kamraj centenary celebration on July 19. Prominent among the members are Mr. Elangovan, Mani Shankar Aiyer, Jayanthi Natarajan, G.K. Vasan and Thangabalu.
