Gaurav, Vinoo shape President's XI's win

BANGALORE June 19. Gaurav Dhiman's 101 and left-arm spinner Vinoo Prasad's five-wicket haul helped President's XI defeat Mangalore Zone by an innings and 283 runs in the KSCA under-19 inter-zonal tournament match that concluded at the NRA Palace Ground here on Thursday.

Resuming at the overnight 261 for four, President's XI rode high on Gaurav's century to post 527 in 78 overs and secured a 428-run first innings lead. Mangalore Zone never recovered in its second innings and succumbed to the combine of Vinoo Prasad (five for 30) and Denzil Johnson (three for 33). Mangalore was bundled out for 145 in 42.4 overs and drew a blank while President's XI bagged eight points.

In another match, Shimoga Zone wrested a 32-run lead and the resultant five points in its drawn encounter against Combined City XI at the WAP Ground. Chasing Shimoga's 383, Combined City scored 351 with S. Vinod's 137 going in vain. Combined City secured two points.

The scores: Mangalore Zone 99 and 145 in 42.4 overs (Vilton Crasto 31, N. Vinoo Prasad five for 30, Denzil Johnson three for 33) lost to President's XI 527 in 78 overs (Gaurav Dhiman 101, M.K. Manjunath 80, Tejus Trishul 70, Devaraj Patil 56, Chetan Williams 31 n.o., K. Sumith seven for 88).

Shimoga Zone 383 for nine in 90 overs and 56 for four in 29 overs drew with Combined City 351 in 88.2 overs (S. Vinod 137, Cheluvaraj 76, Nikhil Kashyap 33 n.o., D. Raghavendra four for 86).
