Efforts are being made to bring down at least 200 international and domestic tour operators, travel agents, group travel organisers, experts in the tourism industry and those in the travel media to take part in the programme to be held at the Kadavu resort here from August 14 to August 16. A high-level meeting of the organising committee was held in this connection here the other day. The Tourism Director, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, presided over the meeting. Several business establishments and other organisations have already evinced interest to participate in the programme, aimed at giving a fillip to the sagging tourism industry. Exclusive stalls will be put up for this purpose at the venue. Exhibitions on resorts, hotels, handicrafts, textiles, tourists carriers, spices, art forms, architecture, food, ayurveda and packages on heritage tourism, health tourism, sport tourism, eco tourism and pilgrimages will be on display. About 75 stalls would be opened in this category, Mr. Sharma said. He said that the plan for organising such an event was to bring Malabar in the global tourism map. The attempt was to introduce the tourism potential of Malabar to other States in India, Gulf nations and European countries. Stress would be laid on attracting the tourists and tour operators on the cultural and traditional aspects of Malabar, he added. The event will be the convergence of international shores, bringing together key players - small, medium and large from around the State and from across the world. Serious business deliberations, one-to-one sessions, successful negotiations, strategic and technological tie-ups will be witnessed at the mega programme.
