11 killed in two road mishaps

HYDERABAD June 18. A collision between an LPG tanker and a

brick-laden lorry claimed four lives at Seri Lingampally on the city outskirts in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to the police, the lorry, which was coming in wrong direction, rammed into the LPG tanker that was on its way to Mumbai after unloading consignment at Cherlapally. The drivers of both vehicles, Ravichandran and Anil, died on the spot. Saheb Rao and Lakhan, passengers, were also killed. The accident occurred around 1.30 a.m.

Seven killed

Our Mahabubnagar Correspondent writes:

In a ghastly road accident seven persons were killed and 15 others injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with an RTC bus, near Fatehpur Maisamma temple under Nawabpet mandal, this morning.

The condition of two injured persons was critical and they were shifted to Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad. The remaining were undergoing treatment at the local Headquarters Hospital.

It was said that the jeep with 24 passengers, going to Mahabubnagar town, crashed into the RTC bus, resulting in the death of three persons on the spot-- Venkatesh, 11, Ramabhai, 21, and Anantasai, 60. Vijayender, 20, Shyam Kumar, 12, Radha 12, and jeep driver Arjun Rao, 21, succumbed to the injuries in the hospital. All the passengers belonged to the Fatehpur village and most of them were labourers and students.

RTC gesture

Our Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes:

The RTC Executive Director, Hyderabad and Karimnagar zones, Ch. Balakrishna Rao, on Wednesday said the corporation had decided to pay funeral expenses of Rs. 1,000 each to seven persons who were killed in the road accident at Nawabpet.

``The corporation normally does not extend ex gratia to anyone when it is not at fault. But, so terrible was the sight at the accident site that we decided to help the family members of the deceased who were all labourers in a small way,'' the official who visited the accident site said here today.
