'Advani a source of strength'

By Our Special Correspondent

UTTHAN (THANE) JUNE 18. "The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, is not only a source of strength for me in the Government but he also devotes a lot of his time and energy to guide the party in its work," the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, said today.

Apparently, the "appropriate time" at which he wanted to speak his mind after the "vikas purush" and "loh purush" concepts raised by the BJP chief, M. Venkaiah Naidu, was today.

Mr. Advani, who has just ended his trip to the United States and the United Kingdom, however, was not present when Mr. Vajpayee spoke; he is due to reach the venue of the BJP's "chintan baithak" early tomorrow. There are plans to provide the media a photo-opportunity of both the leaders later on Thursday.

Mr. Vajpayee also praised Mr. Naidu, who had sparked the controversy, saying that as party chief he had enlivened the organisation. "I am astonished by his energy level. If all functionaries and activists work with such enthusiasm, I have no doubt that we shall overcome all challenges before us and march towards success,'' Mr. Vajpayee said.
