Decision soon on leadership change in Cong.

By Our Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD June 18. A decision on the demand for a change of leadership of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee will be taken by the party high command "within the next few days", the AICC secretary in-charge of Gujarat affairs, Vilasrao Deshmukh, said here today.

Talking to mediapersons at the end of his two-day visit to the State, Mr. Deshmukh said he had heard a cross-section of party workers and leaders and would submit his report to the party president, Sonia Gandhi, after which the high command would decide.

Mr. Deshmukh, who advised all the leaders and party workers on Tuesday to stand united to fight against the "common enemy", refused to divulge his mind on the leadership issue but said that representations were made before him both for and against continuing Shankarsinh Waghela as the State Congress president and Amarsinh Chaudhary as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

``A decision will be taken in the best interest of the party. We want the support and cooperation of all the leaders and party workers in the coming Lok Sabha elections irrespective of the posts and offices they held,'' he said.

Mr. Deshmukh said he would also talk to the veteran leader, Madhavsinh Solanki, and the political adviser to Ms Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, before submitting his report to the party president
