Dissension surfaces in Samajwadi Party

By Our Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW JUNE 18. The Samajwadi Party today felt the first tremors of dissension within its legislature wing with a party MLA, Masood Khan, openly criticising the party leadership for harming the interests of Muslims. He, however, praised the Chief Minister, Mayawati, for protecting the rights of minorities, despite running a coalition Government.

Addressing a hurriedly-convened press conference here, Mr. Khan criticised the SP for joining hands with persons such as the former Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, whose role in the demolition of the Babri Masjid was well-known. He found fault with the SP leadership for supporting the independent MLA, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias "Raja Bhaiya.''

He claimed that there were many more MLAs in the party who were disgusted with the policies being followed by the leadership.

They would speak out their mind at the opportune moment.
