YSR worships at Tirumala

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA JUNE 18. The Congress Legislature Party leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, offered worship at temple of Lord Venkateswara in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Dr. Reddy, who reached Tirumala last night, after trekking 10 km up the hill, stayed overnight and paid a visit to the temple this morning.

Dr. Reddy's two-day pilgrimage to the holy shrine is being observed as a thanks-giving visit, after his successful 1,472-km padayatra.

Talking to mediapersons, the CLP leader said he had prayed to the Lord to shower his blessings on people of the State and provide them with a bright future when farmers could have sufficient rain and the State could tide over the dry spell.

Evading reply to other queries, Dr. Reddy said he had come only to offer prayers in the temple and that it was purely a personal visit.

Meanwhile, local Congress leaders drew his attention to the harsh treatment being meted out to the displaced families at Tirumala, in the pretext of land acquisition by the T.T.D. and showed him a photo album consisting of several photos and paper cuttings relating to the eviction process, which the TTD had handled last month.

Later, Dr. Reddy accompanied by other Congress party leaders, including the PCC secretary, Karunakar Reddy, and the Vayalpadu MLA Kiran Kumar Reddy, left for Chennai.
