CM okays plans to develop 10 major temples

HYDERABAD June 18. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved the master plans to develop 10 major temples in the State as spiritual, tourist and cultural centres.

The temples at Simhachalam, Bhadrachalam, Annavaram, Vijayawada, Dwaraka Tirumala, Srisailam, Yadagirigutta, Keesaragutta, Vemulawada and Srikalahasti should have visitors zones with hotels, recreation and entertainment facilities to be built by A.P. Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), Mr. Naidu told an official meeting to review tourism projects in the State.

Mr. Naidu also sanctioned Rs. 10 lakhs for the preservation of natural rocks in the State on the occasion. He asked the Director of Mines and Geology to stop issuing fresh or renewing old licences for quarrying where the natural rock formation was there. He wanted Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts surveyed thoroughly to identify rock formation which needed protection and preservation.

Mr. Naidu insisted that officials identify and notify areas where there was natural rock formation. The Collectors would take steps to preserve them. In addition to the nine sites in and around the city, rocks which had already been notified would be developed by HUDA, MCH and Tourism Department. A committee should be constituted to take steps to preserve rocks.

Mr. Naidu also released a publication titled `Rockitecture of Andhra Pradesh' written by Narendra Luther, President of Society to Save Rocks.

The meeting was attended by the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav, the APTDC Chairman and Managing Director, C. Anjaneya Reddy, the Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Chandana Khan, the City Police Commissioner, M.V. Krishna Rao, Director of Culture, Kishan Rao, and other senior officials.
