A section of the Kadungallur grama panchayat members have urged the Government to go forward with its proposed move to permit mineral sand-mining in the coastal areas of Alappuzha district. Addressing a press conference here today, the president of the Kadungallur grama panchayat, K. K. Uthaman, alleged that the ongoing protests against mineral sand-mining was being carried out without knowing the truth behind it. The protest is part of a conspiracy aimed at the closure of the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited, Aluva. Once the company is closed down, large number of people especially the youth from Kadungallur and neighbouring panchayats would become jobless, he added.
