Search on for suspects in Mecca plot

MECCA (Saudi Arabia) june 18. Police alerted by local residents who spotted wounded men searched the eastern outskirts of Mecca on Tuesday for suspects in a plot to launch attacks in Islam's holiest city, a Saudi security official said.

Police were alerted after a boy saw men hiding in a shack about 10 km east of Mecca on Tuesday morning, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. When police arrived, the men were gone, leaving behind bloodied clothing, bandages, saline solution, water and food. Helicopters circled the area in the morning looking for the suspects and checkpoints were set up along the roads leading to the mountains.
