Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
This was announced by the Director, Earth Observation Systems, at ISRO, V. Jayaraman at a press conference after inaugurating an exhibition at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum here. He said the Union Ministry for Urban Development had sanctioned Rs. 115 crore for the project during the 10th Plan. For the UIS, data from ISRO's remote-sensing satellites would be collated with aerial data to map various cities, he added. According to him, ISRO had already mapped 12 "major cities", including Bangalore. He said Bangalore's Information Technology Corridor, and its Ring Road were mapped using ISRO satellite images. Images of the flood situation in Assam were being transmitted to a resource centre in Shillong, Dr. Jayaraman said. The IAF then used the data to pick out spots for dropping flood relief. Dr. Jayaraman said the Department of Space was a nodal agency for the National Natural Resources Management System. "Each department, be it Mines and Geology, Water Resources, Agriculture, etc., use our data as and when it is of relevance to them,'' he said.
