Namtech has been manufacturing tamper proof electronic energy meters for the last six years and supplying to major power distributors such as Tata Power, New Delhi Power Limited and most State electricity boards. Encore is well known for its role in developing the Simputer, a hand-held computer. The tieup involves joint development of a tamper proof energy billing system. The technology uses radio frequency (RF) transmission and reception for remote reading of energy meters. RF enabled Simputers act as data collection equipment, which can also be programmed for the billing logic and generation of user bills on the spot. The technology and the corresponding system will be commercially available within six months. This technology would result in substantial increase in profitability to utilities owing to reduced billing period, accurate meter reading and better controls over the end user.
