The team consisting of the Tahsildar, the Block Education Officer, the Deputy Director of Agriculture, and the Assistant Executive Engineer of Mescom, toured the district and observed that many villages in the taluk, especially in Shantigrama and Salagame hoblis, faced a severe shortage of fodder and drinking water. He said the Deputy Commissioner had released Rs. 1.5 lakh for providing fodder in the affected villages and steps were taken to deepen borewells in other villages. However, according to the Tahsildar, fodder shortage was more serious than that of drinking water. Mr. Lakke Gowda said it would become inevitable to open goshalas if it did not rain by next week and the team had discussed the issue with the Deputy Commissioner. The latter would take a decision on the matter after consulting the officials concerned. Mr. Gowda said failure of rain had created many problems. Two borewells in Bhuvanahalli had gone dry and the villagers said removing silt from the Gadinakatte would help provide water to cattle. Officials in Haralahalli Gram Panchayat had been directed to arrange for supply of drinking water in the village. Officials in Hanumanthapura Gram Panchayat were told to deepen borewells. According to him, the situation is no different in Kandali, Manachanahalli, Guddenahalli, Choudenahalli, Nagenahalli, Ubbenahalli, Rangenahalli, Hangarahalli, and Aladahalli. In some of these villages, borewells need to be deepened and new borewells have to be dug to mitigate drinking water problem. In Seege, where the villagers are facing a severe fodder crisis, the cattle are being fed dry leaves. The officials were directed to provide power supply to mini water-supply schemes in a few villages, including Sajjenahalli and Rangenahalli. The team, which had submitted a report on the situation in the taluk to the Deputy Commissioner, was yet to visit some more villages, he said.
