Jankidas dead

MUMBAI JUNE 18. Jankidas Mehra, veteran Hindi film actor, died of cardiac failure at his Juhu residence this morning, family sources said. He was 93 and is survived by two sons and two daughters.

Jankidas was suffering from heart ailment for quite some time and was discharged from a local hospital two days ago.

He had acted in over 1,000 films since the silent era. He was the first production designer in the film industry and had designed several films, including `Pathar aur Payal' and `Warrant'.

He was the recipient of many national and international awards. In May 1996, he received the Lifetime Achievement award.
