A unique concept worth emulating

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD June 14. The Army Ordnance Corps Regimental Centre has achieved what would seem to many an unthinkable feat given today's social and political context. They have constructed a temple and a mosque within a few feet of each other as part of the Centre's Sarva Dharma Sthal, which also has a church and a Gurudwara.

Located on a nine-acre park along the Secunderabad-AOC road, this complex was constructed as part of the AOC centre's golden jubilee celebrations and was inaugurated by the Director-General of Ordnance Services, T.J.S. Gill, on Friday morning.

Speaking about the idea and its implementation, the AOC Commandant, A.K. Jyoti, Brigadier, said three of the buildings and the park's layout were constructed in a record four months with contributions of money and material from various people, both from defence services and civilians. The State Government too had contributed Rs. 15 lakhs.

The highlight of the ceremony was the simultaneous chanting of prayers by religious leaders while Lt. Gen. Gill inaugurated the complex. Speaking on the occasion, he complimented the Commandant and staff of the AOC centre for coming up with such a unique concept and expressed the hope that it would enhance spiritual health of the soldiers as well as strengthen their unity.
