Searches continue on Azhagiri premises

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI JUNE 14. The city police today continued search operations on the premises owned by M. K. Azhagiri, elder son of the former Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, in connection with the Kiruttinan murder case.

This morning, a special team led by the Tallakulam Additional Superintendent, Hema Karunakaran, searched the `Royal Videos', `Royal Castle' and `Gandhi Silks' in the Shopping Complex bus stand, in the presence of Kanthi Azhagiri, wife of Mr. Azhagiri. A few video cassettes, compact discs and audio cassettes were seized. In the evening, sleuths from the video piracy cell raided the Royal Videos for detecting pirated versions of movies and albums.

An attempt was allegedly made by a group to assault a `Jaya TV' reporter, O. Murugan, when he tried to shoot the proceedings.

A handful of DMK cadres, including the Madurai Mayor, C. Ramachandran, and the senior functionary, C. Kaverimaniam, were present at the scene.

The police had obtained a warrant from the Sixth Judicial Magistrate, K. Vanitha, to conduct the searches in the shops last night.
